Engagement Award

Call for Nominations

The Florida Primate Society is pleased to announce the inaugural FPS Engagement Award, recognizing an individual whose dedication to primatology extends beyond their own research to meaningfully strengthen the field and the community around it.

Primatology thrives not just through discoveries, but through the people who build the networks, relationships, and culture that make the work possible. The FPS Engagement Award honors an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the broader primate science community, through service, advocacy, mentorship, or dedication to the growth of primatology in Florida and beyond.

This award is intentionally broad in scope. Engagement looks different across career stages and roles, and we welcome nominations that reflect that diversity.

Eligible Activities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Sustained service to the Florida Primate Society or similar professional organizations
  • Contributions to founding, building, or sustaining primate-focused initiatives, programs, or organizations
  • Advocacy for primate welfare, conservation, or research interests
  • Mentorship of students and early-career researchers, including efforts to bring students into the professional community
  • Public outreach and science communication related to primatology
  • Efforts to grow participation or community engagement in the field

Eligibility

The award is open to any individual working in or contributing to primatology; researchers, educators, advocates, students, and professionals from allied fields are all eligible.

Selection

The award recipient will be selected by the FPS Executive Board. Any Executive Board member who has been nominated for the award will be recused from the selection process. The committee will give particular weight to contributions that reflect a long-term investment in the field and a commitment to building community, not just individual achievement.

The award will be presented at the 2026 FPS Annual Conference.
